Modern Classical: A Unique Residential Apartment Design by Ching-Ya Chou

Combining Modern and Classical Elements to Create a Harmonious Space

Inspired by the beauty of paintings, metal ornaments, and light fixtures, Ching-Ya Chou has created a residential apartment design that seamlessly blends modern and classical elements. With a focus on creating vivid colors and invigorating textures, this design brings life to every corner of the house.

This residential interior design project divides the indoor space into three distinct areas: the front wide public area, the middle quiescent study room and guest toilet, and the rear private area. The layout is precisely organized to prevent the main area from being affected by the damp air from the bathroom. What sets this design apart is its ability to synthesize modern and new classical elements, subtly incorporating classical features into the modern structures using diverse materials.

The living and dining rooms are divided by an entryway adorned with a small chandelier and a stone surface with delicate cracked patterns. Decorative mirrors extend the visual perception, while the hallway to the private area is strategically placed on the other side of the dining room, highlighting the living and dining rooms as the focal points of the space.

The design features a gorgeous rhombic mirror adjoining the carved ceiling panels, subtly exposing the classical characters. The consistent color tones of the symmetrical marbles, sofas, and coffee table in the living room create a calm and serene atmosphere. The vivid paintings adorning the main walls in the living and dining rooms add a touch of liveliness. The dining room and the semi-open kitchen island are decorated in a simple and graceful style, creating a beautiful contrast within the space.

The study room, located behind the kitchen, is decorated with woods to create a calm and plain working environment. The master bedroom, adorned with leathers and carved panels, exudes a poised and classical charm. The girl's room, on the other hand, is decorated with lavender purple, French-style carved panels, and hand-scraped wood floors, generating elegant textures.

One of the design challenges was to create sufficient storage while maintaining aesthetic appeal. The wardrobe with a TV is decorated with sliding doors, showcasing the designer's skills in creating functional yet visually pleasing elements within the house.

The project was completed on the 22nd of January 2019 in New Taipei City. This unique residential apartment design spans across 158.7 square meters, providing a spacious and comfortable living environment.
